To help us explain what really makes the Children's School such a special place, we teamed up with the great folks at the Cast Iron Media Group to produce a short informational video.
Please enjoy our little video...
This video features some of the children, parents, and teachers of the Children's School. During the video you will see a number of parents explain why they chose to send their children to the Children's School and their experiences since having made that decision. The teachers discuss their teaching philosophy and what they love about working with 3 to 5 year olds. Throughout the video the children do, what they do best.. They listen, learn, laugh, create and play.
Transcript:
Derek, Parent: We decided to come to The Children's School with my son on a recomendation from a friend. And then once we saw the place we were just struck by how peaceful and safe and nurturing the environment was.
Jen, Parent: I looked everywhere. I wanted someplace that was accredited. I wanted someplace that had a play based learning structure. Because that is the number one way that children this age and this developmental stage learn. And I knew that. And that's what I wanted. And that's exactly what I found.
Becky, Parent: The first thing that I loved about the school was the space. It felt like a home to me. It felt like a place where kids would feel comfortable.
Derek: The cooperative nature of this preschool is great because the parents are involved. Obviously, with our parent helper days we spend time here. And on any given day we get to see how the school works.
Becky: And the teachers allow you to chose activities that you might want to share with the kids. So, I know we have a parent here who is a doctor... we have a few parents that are doctors... and they come in and show the children their doctors tools and talk about their specialty. Or if there is a parent who is a carpenter, they may do a little carpentry with the children. So, you can use whatever skills that you have at home to share with the kids. So the kids get a wide variety of knowledge from not only their teachers but also the parents who come to the school each year.
Sue, Head Morning Teacher: We are NAEYC accredited which is the National Association for the Education of Young Children. We use their philosophy that children learn better through play. Educational research, which the NAEYC standards are derived from... the latest research showing how children learn best and that's what we do. Building blocks, puzzles, painting, creative movement, dramatic play. Those are all ways in which children are developing in all the areas.
Judy, Head Morning Teacher: We view the children's play and take a lot of cues from them, but we also give them adult direction.
Christina, Head Afternoon Teacher: The thing that I like best about working with 3 and 4 year olds is that every day you come to work and there's just so much energy. Right when I walk in the door they greet me. And its just a lot of energy. Just being able to see how they learn everyday. What they're learning. Their excitement about learning. It's always exciting and always something new.
Jen: I have 4 children. This is my 8th year in a row at the Children's School. So, all of my kids... they have all come to the Children's School and I wouldn't have had it any other way. It's an amazing place to raise kids and I see the difference of their preschool experience in their grade school experience.
Becky: To me The Children's School is the teachers, and also the families... Here she is!
